Unlock Your Avatar Unlock Your Traffic
Zach’s Take: I remember a time when I’d literally circle the block three times before pulling into my own office. I was making money, but I was miserable because I was serving anyone with a heartbeat and a checkbook. If you’re waking up dreading your client list, you don’t have a business—you have a prison sentence. This episode is about the moment I realized that if you don't pick the people you want to serve, the wrong people will pick you.
The High School Party Filter 🏫
Think back to high school. You walk into a party—maybe you got there in a green Ford Taurus station wagon like my buddy Elliot’s mom’s car—and you realize within ten minutes that you don’t fit in. You’ve got the jocks in the locker room, the "freaks" in Janko pants and chains, the stoners, and the troublemakers. You’re surrounded by people, but there’s no connection. You’re just... there.
Most contractors are living that exact nightmare in their business every day.
Michael Gabriel and I got into this because it’s the #1 reason people burn out. We think we have to serve everyone to grow, but the reality is that "everyone" includes the people who suck the life out of you.

If you’re tired of "renting" your traffic and want to start owning the "pond," watch the breakdown below:
The "Wheel of Cheese" Story (Why Your Avatar Matters) 🧀
I’ll never forget one specific client from my real estate days. To me, the most important things are loving God and loving your family. This guy? He hated his wife. He actually took joy in mocking her. She had been severely injured when a massive wheel of cheese fell off a shelf at a dairy farm and hit her head, and he would make fun of her brain damage in front of people.
When I saw him at one of our client parties, I realized I had built a business surrounded by people I couldn't stand.
I had to "blow up" my database. I got a coach who gave me permission to only serve the people I’d actually go to dinner with. For me, that meant clients who:
Love God.
Love their family.
Want to build a big business.
The second I made that shift, I went from dreading the office to hanging out with friends all day.
Finding the "Perfect Pond" 🎣
Once you know who you want to serve, you have to find where they congregate. Michael calls these "the ponds."
Instead of shouting into the ocean and hoping for a bite, find the influencer, the Facebook group, or the conference where your people are already hanging out.
The "King of the Pond": If you can get an endorsement from the person who already controls the audience (like Gary Keller for real estate agents), you get instant credibility.
The Dream 100: This is how I scaled Crux Invicta to $100k in 90 days. I didn't guess; I went exactly where my people were already congregating and threw my hook into that specific pond.
Your Avatar is "You," a Few Years Ago 👤
If you’re stuck on who your avatar should be, stop looking at spreadsheets. Look at your own history. Your ideal client is usually just a version of yourself from three or five years ago—someone who is currently dealing with the exact pains you’ve already solved.
When you speak to that version of yourself, you stop sounding like a salesman. You start sounding like the only person who actually understands the problem.
Final Takeaway: Stop Being a Generalist!
You can build an empire on the cheap if you have the guts to be specific. Pick your people, find their pond, and start building real relationships instead of just collecting leads.
